Top tourism players receive Sarawak Hornbill Tourism Award

KUCHING: The 4th Sarawak Hornbill Tourism Award 2009/2010 saw more than 20 individuals and organisations recognised for their contributions in developing and transforming the state’s tourism industry.

In a grand and colourful gala night held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Saturday, the coveted Minister’s Award for Creativity/Innovation went to Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort managing director Law Ing Hua in the individual category.

In the organisation category, the award went to Miri City Council. Both winners received RM5,000, a certificate and a trophy each.

This award recognises the extraordinary personal and professional achievement and contribution by an individual or organisation to Sarawak’s tourism industry.

In the Outstanding Tour Operator category, the award went to Cat City Holidays Sdn Bhd.

Kraftangan Manik Seramik Long Tuma, Lawas bagged the Outstanding Contribution to the Tourism Industry — Handicraft and Souvenirs.

Damai Beach Resort won the Outstanding Contribution to the Tourism Industry (MICE), while Hilton Kuching took the Green and Responsible Tourism.

For Outstanding Food and Entertainment Outlets, Ristorante Beccari took the Fine Dining award, Islamic Nyonya Café (Local Cuisine), One O One Café (Café/Bistro/Kopi Tiam), Top Spot Food Court (Hawker/Stalls/Foodcourt) and Victoria Arms (Nightspot).

In the Media category, Damai Beach Resort bagged the Website award, New Straits Time journalist Nancy Nais (Articles), Utusan Sarawak photographer Muhamad Rais Sanusi (Pictures) and Borneo Talk (Publication).

The Malaysian Nature Society Kuching Branch took the Outstanding Contribution to the Tourism Industry — Private Sector/Association category.
